Custom Candle Boxes for Jar Candles, Tins, Votives, and Gift Sets

What candle boxes are used for

A candle is heavy for its size, and most candles are bought as gifts. A box protects the glass, keeps the wax clean, and shows the scent and the brand before the lid is lifted. Custom candle boxes hold jar candles, tin candles, pillar candles, votives, tealights, and travel size candles, as well as sets of two or three and candle and matchbook gift kits. Brands use candle packaging for retail shelves, online orders, holiday sets, and wedding or event favors. A good box carries the scent name, the size, the burn directions, and the safety warnings, and it holds the jar firmly so it does not knock against the wall in transit.

Sizes and how to measure

Measure the candle, not the label. For a jar or a tin, take the outer diameter and the full height with the lid on. For a pillar, take the diameter and the height. For a set, lay the candles out as they will sit and measure the full layout. Allow 1/8 to 1/4 inch per side for clearance. Send us the numbers and we build the dieline around them.

Box styles and closures

A straight tuck end carton is the standard choice for candle boxes, because it ships flat and fits a jar snugly. An auto lock bottom holds the weight of a larger jar without tape. A sleeve box slides over a tray, a drawer box creates a gift reveal, and a lift-off lid box shows the candle at once. A magnetic closure rigid box suits a gift set. A window carton shows the color of the wax. A mailer box ships a candle without a second carton. These styles can be made as custom candle box packaging for retail or for mailing.

Materials and thickness

Folding cartons use paperboard of about 300 to 400 GSM, which prints crisp color and holds a jar firmly. Kraft board gives a natural look that many candle brands like. Rigid boxes use greyboard of about 1.5 to 2 mm under a printed wrap and suit a gift set or a large jar. For mail, E-flute or B-flute corrugated mailers add crush protection. Exact thickness is confirmed for each order. Every box uses eco-friendly materials sourced from certified suppliers, and recycled paperboard and kraft board are available.

Printing, coatings, and finishes

Print full color CMYK or match your brand with Pantone spot colors, on the outside only or the outside and inside. Candles are sold as a range of scents, so many brands use one layout with a color band, a botanical drawing, or an icon that changes by scent, which keeps cost lower. Matte lamination looks calm, gloss adds shine, and soft-touch adds a velvety feel. Spot UV can pick out the logo, and foil in gold, silver, or rose gold adds an accent. Embossing and debossing add texture to a name. Luxury candle packaging often pairs a soft-touch rigid box with a foil logo. Unique candle packaging can come from a shaped window, an embossed pattern, or a color that changes with each scent. Custom printed candle boxes can also carry a barcode, burn directions, and safety warnings.

Inserts and windows

A paperboard or corrugated insert holds the jar in place and keeps the glass from touching the box wall. For a set, the insert has an opening for each candle. A die-cut window with clear film shows the candle, which helps in retail. If your jar is plain, a solid front with a foil logo may look better. A clean white or kraft insert makes a dark jar stand out.

Labeling notes

Candles carry safety text, such as burn directions and warnings, and you are responsible for that text. You supply the wording and any required labeling, and we print it where you want it. We do not write or check this text for you.

Artwork and dieline

We send a free dieline sized to your candle. Supply artwork as a vector AI or PDF file with fonts outlined and images at 300 DPI in CMYK. If you have no artwork yet, free design support and a free consultation are included, and our team can help lay out the front, the side panels, and the back from your logo and brand colors. You review and approve the artwork before production starts.
