What comb packaging is used for

A comb is a small, low cost product that shoppers pick up at the counter, so the box has to catch the eye and show the comb at once. Sizes and how to measure

Measure the comb, not the label. Take the length, the width at the widest point, and the thickness, and include the handle if there is one. Combs are flat, so the thickness decides the depth of the box. For a set, measure each piece and choose a layout. Allow 1/8 to 1/4 inch per side for clearance. Box styles and closures

A straight tuck end carton is the standard choice for comb boxes, because it ships flat and slides over a flat comb snugly. A sleeve box slides over a tray and suits a pair or a set. A window carton shows the comb and its color. A hang tab lets a carton hang on a retail peg. A magnetic closure rigid box suits a gift set or a wooden comb. A mailer box ships a set without a second carton. These styles can be made as comb box packaging for retail or for mailing.

Materials and thickness

Folding cartons use paperboard of about 300 to 400 GSM, which prints crisp color and holds a flat comb firmly. Kraft board gives a natural look that suits wooden combs. Rigid boxes use greyboard of about 1.5 to 2 mm under a printed wrap and suit a gift set. For mail, E-flute corrugated mailers add crush protection. Exact thickness is confirmed for each order. Printing, coatings, and finishes

Print full color CMYK or match your brand with Pantone spot colors, on the outside only or the outside and inside. Combs are often sold in several colors or woods, so many brands use one layout with a color band that changes by product, which keeps cost lower across a range. Matte lamination looks calm, gloss adds shine, and soft-touch adds a velvety feel. Spot UV can pick out the logo, and foil in gold, silver, or rose gold adds an accent. Embossing and debossing add texture to a name. Comb boxes with logo on the front and a feature list on the back help the customer choose a comb. Custom printed comb boxes can also carry a barcode, a tooth style chart, and care directions.

Inserts and windows

A paperboard insert or a slot cut holds the comb flat so the teeth do not bend or rub the wall. For a set, the insert has an opening for each item. A die-cut window with clear film shows the comb, which helps in retail. If your comb is plain, a solid front with a foil logo may look better. A clean white or black insert makes a colored or wooden comb stand out.
