What custom compact powder boxes are used for

A compact is flat, light, and easy to damage. A pressed powder cake can crack if the case is knocked, and a mirror lid can scratch in a mailer. Custom compact powder boxes hold pressed face powder, setting powder, translucent powder, blush, bronzer, highlighter, and powder foundation in round, square, and rectangular cases. The box protects the case, carries the shade name and number in a clear place, and holds the directions and ingredient list that a small compact has little room for. Sizes and how to measure

Measure the case, not the powder. For a round compact, take the outer diameter and the thickness with the lid closed. For a square or rectangular compact, take length, width, and thickness. If the case has a hinge or a raised lid, measure at the largest point. Allow 1/8 to 1/4 inch per side for clearance. Send us the numbers and we build the dieline around them.

Box styles and closures

A tuck end carton is the standard choice for a compact box, because it ships flat and keeps the case sliding in and out smoothly. A sleeve box slides over a tray and suits a flat case. A drawer box slides out of a sleeve and creates a reveal. A magnetic closure rigid box feels sturdy and suits a gift set or a compact and brush duo. A lift-off lid rigid box holds a taller set. A hang tab version fits a retail peg. These styles can be made as custom compact powder packaging for retail or for mailing.

Materials and thickness

Folding cartons use paperboard of about 300 to 400 GSM, which prints crisp color and keeps a flat case from bending. Kraft board gives a natural look. Rigid boxes use greyboard of about 1.5 to 2 mm under a printed wrap and suit a gift set. For mail, E-flute or B-flute corrugated mailers add crush protection, which matters for a pressed powder cake. Exact thickness is confirmed for each order. Every box uses eco-friendly materials sourced from certified suppliers, and recycled paperboard and kraft board are available.

Printing, coatings, and finishes

Print full color CMYK or match your brand with Pantone spot colors, on the outside only or the outside and inside. Many powder brands use one box design with a printed color swatch or a band that changes by shade, so shoppers can match a tone from the shelf. Keep the shade name and number large on the front and the side. Matte lamination looks calm, gloss adds shine, and soft-touch adds a velvety feel. Spot UV can pick out the logo, and foil in gold, silver, or rose gold adds an accent. Embossing and debossing add texture to a name. Compact powder boxes with logo printing can also carry a barcode, directions, and a short usage note.

Inserts and windows

A paperboard or corrugated insert holds the compact flat so it does not slide or tilt when the box is moved. For a set with a brush or a puff, the insert has an opening for each item. A die-cut window with clear film shows the pressed pattern or the color of the powder, which helps shoppers match a shade. If your case is plain, a solid front with a foil logo may look better. A clean white insert shows the color of the powder best.
