What custom compostable mailers are used for

A compostable mailer is a shipping envelope made from a film that is designed to break down in a composting setting, instead of staying as plastic for years. It works like a normal mailer: the seller packs the item, presses the self-seal strip closed, and ships it. Brands use custom compostable mailers for clothes, swimwear, accessories, books, beauty kits, and other soft goods that do not need a rigid box. A printed compostable mailer also tells your customer that you thought about the package, which matters to many beauty and fashion shoppers.

What compostable means

Compostable mailers are usually made from plant-based materials blended with other compostable polymers. How a mailer breaks down depends on the material and on where it is composted. Some film is meant for an industrial composting facility, and some is meant for a home compost bin. Not every town has a facility that accepts these mailers, so your customer should check local rules. We send you the material details and the supplier's documents before you order, and you decide whether the material fits what you want to say on your page and your package. Sizes and how to measure

Mailer size is written as width x height, and the flap adds more length. To choose a size, fold or pack your item the way you plan to ship it, measure its width and height, and add room so it slides in easily. A mailer of about 6 in x 9 in suits small accessories, and about 10 in x 13 in suits a folded t-shirt or a small kit. A mailer of about 14.5 in x 19 in suits hoodies and bulky clothes. Padded mailers need extra room for the cushion. Tell us your item and how you pack it, and we suggest the right size.

Compostable bubble mailers and padding

Compostable bubble mailers add a cushioning layer inside for fragile items such as jars, small boxes, and cosmetics. The cushion is made from a compostable material, and we confirm the exact build during the free consultation. A plain compostable mailer is lighter and costs less, and it suits clothes and soft goods. A padded mailer costs more and suits items that can crack or dent. Custom compostable bubble mailers still use a self-seal strip, and a tear strip or a return strip can be added. A mailer is not a guarantee against damage, so tell us what you ship.

Printing and finishing

Custom compostable mailers can carry your logo and design in one or more colors, on the front and the back. The print can be a single logo, a pattern, or a design across the whole bag. Bold colors and simple shapes look best. White or light ink stands out on dark film, and dark ink stands out on light or natural film. A thank-you message, a care note, or a social handle on the back works well. Ink and film color options depend on the material, so we confirm them on the proof. Keep the print away from the seal strip, and leave a small area for a shipping label.

Labeling and shipping notes

A mailer carries a shipping label, so plan a clear area for it. Film mailers can also need a warning about suffocation risk for children, so check what applies to your product and your sizes. Any text on the mailer is supplied by you, and we do not write or check label text or claims.

Supply artwork as a vector AI or PDF file with fonts outlined and images at 300 DPI in CMYK. If you have no artwork yet, free design support and a free consultation are included, and our team can help lay out the logo and the text from your brand colors. You review and approve the artwork before production starts.

2. Order a $59 sample kit if you want to feel the film and seal first. The $59 is credited toward your order total.
3. Send your quantity, starting at 5,000 units.
4. Receive your free dieline and add your artwork, or ask for help.
5. Review and approve the artwork.
6. Production takes 6 to 8 business days after artwork approval, and your order ships free to one U.S. address.

The final price depends on mailer size, material, padding, color, printing, finishing, and quantity.
