What cream jars are used for

A cream jar has a wide opening, so thick products are easy to scoop with a finger or a spatula. Cosmetic cream jars are used for face cream, body cream, eye cream, night cream, lip balm, hair masks, body butter, salves, and scrubs. Sizes and how to measure

Jars are sold by the volume they hold. Mini cream jars are 5 g or 10 ml, up to 1 oz (30 ml), and suit sample sizes, balms, and travel sets. Common retail sizes are 2 oz (60 ml), 4 oz (120 ml), 8 oz (240 ml), and 16 oz (480 ml). Face cream jars are usually 1 oz to 2 oz, and body cream jars are 4 oz to 16 oz. Check the diameter and the total height with the lid on, because that sets the size of your box. Measure the flat side for a label. The lid must match the neck of the jar, so send us the size you want and we confirm the match.

• 1 oz: about 1.9 in wide x 1.3 in tall

Materials, shapes, and lids

Cream jars glass is the most common choice for skincare, and glass comes in clear, frosted, amber, white opal, and black. A thick base gives a glass jar weight and a quality feel. Plastic jars in PET or PP are light and do not break, and acrylic jars have a thick double wall that looks like glass. Shapes include straight sided, round, and wide mouth jars. Lids can be black or white plastic, gold or silver aluminum, or wood look or bamboo. A liner or an inner disc under the lid seals the jar. Printing, coating, and finishes

Custom cream jars can carry a logo in several ways. Screen printing puts one or two colors straight on the glass or plastic and lasts well. Hot stamp foil in gold or silver gives a sharp metallic mark, and the lid can carry the logo as well. A pressure sensitive label gives full color and room for text, and a frosted or colored coating can match your brand. Labeling notes

You supply the text and the layout, and we print what you send. We do not write or check label text or claims, so please have your final label reviewed by a person who knows the rules for your product.

Artwork and dieline

We send a free dieline that shows the print area on your jar and lid, or the size of your label. Supply artwork as a vector AI or PDF file with fonts outlined and images at 300 DPI in CMYK. Screen print and foil designs work best as single color vector files. You review and approve the artwork before production starts.
