What custom essential oil boxes are used for

Essential oils are sold in small glass bottles, usually amber or blue, that look much alike on a shelf. The box is what shows the oil name, the brand, and the size. Custom essential oil boxes hold dropper bottles, roller bottles, blend bottles, and sample vials, as well as sets of three, six, or twelve. Brands use essential oil packaging for single oils, blends, starter kits, gift sets, and subscription boxes. A good box carries the oil name, the size, the ingredient list, and the directions, and it protects the glass bottle and its cap on the way to the customer.

Sizes and how to measure

Measure the bottle, not the label. Take the outer diameter at the widest point and the full height with the cap or dropper on. For a set, lay the bottles out as they will sit and measure the full layout. Allow 1/8 to 1/4 inch per side for clearance. Send us the numbers and we build the dieline around them.

Box styles and closures

A straight tuck end carton is the standard choice for essential oil boxes, because it ships flat and fits a small bottle snugly. A reverse tuck end keeps the front panel clean for the oil name. An auto lock bottom holds a heavier glass bottle upright without tape. A sleeve box slides over a tray and suits a trio, a drawer box creates a small reveal, and a magnetic closure rigid box suits a starter kit or a gift set. These styles can be made as essential oil box packaging for retail or for mailing.

Materials and thickness

Folding cartons use paperboard of about 300 to 400 GSM, which prints crisp color and holds a small bottle firmly. Kraft board gives a natural look that many oil brands like. Rigid boxes use greyboard of about 1.5 to 2 mm under a printed wrap and suit a set or a gift box. For mail, E-flute or B-flute corrugated mailers add crush protection. Exact thickness is confirmed for each order. Every box uses eco-friendly materials sourced from certified suppliers, and recycled paperboard and kraft board are available.

Printing, coatings, and finishes

Print full color CMYK or match your brand with Pantone spot colors, on the outside only or the outside and inside. Oils are usually sold as a range, so many brands use one layout with a color band or an icon that changes by oil, which keeps cost lower. Matte lamination looks calm, gloss adds shine, and soft-touch adds a velvety feel. Spot UV can pick out the logo, and foil in gold, silver, or rose gold adds an accent. Embossing and debossing add texture to a name. Luxury essential oil packaging often pairs a kraft or soft-touch box with a foil logo. Unique essential oil packaging can come from a shaped window, an embossed pattern, or a color that changes with each oil. Custom printed essential oil boxes can also carry a barcode, an ingredient list, and directions.

Inserts and windows

A paperboard or corrugated insert holds each bottle upright and keeps the glass from touching the box wall or another bottle. For a set, the insert has an opening for each bottle. A die-cut window with clear film shows the bottle and its label, which helps in retail. If your bottles are plain, a solid front with a foil logo may look better. A clean white or kraft insert makes an amber bottle stand out.

Labeling and shipping notes

Essential oils are liquids, and carriers and regulators have rules for labeling and shipping them. Check these rules before you sell and ship. You supply the ingredient list, the directions, the warnings, and any required text, and we print it where you want it. We do not write or check this text for you.

Artwork and dieline

We send a free dieline sized to your bottle. Supply artwork as a vector AI or PDF file with fonts outlined and images at 300 DPI in CMYK. If you have no artwork yet, free design support and a free consultation are included, and our team can help lay out the front, the side panels, and the back from your logo and brand colors. You review and approve the artwork before production starts.
