What powder jars are used for

A powder jar holds a loose, dry product and releases a small amount when it is tapped or shaken. A glass powder jar usually has a sifter, which is a plastic disc with small holes that sits under the lid. Powder jars are used for loose face powder, setting powder, mineral foundation, blush, eyeshadow, highlighter, glitter, dry shampoo, body powder, bath salts, and herbal blends. Makeup, skincare, and body care brands buy empty jars to fill at their own site. Sizes and how to measure

Jars are sold by the volume they hold. Mini jars are 5 ml, 10 ml, and 15 ml and suit eyeshadow, glitter, and samples. Common retail sizes are 30 ml, 50 ml, and 100 ml, and larger jars of 150 ml to 250 ml suit body powder and bath products. Check the diameter and the total height with the lid on, because that sets the size of your box. Measure the flat side for a label. The sifter and lid must match the neck of the jar, so send us the size you want and we confirm the match.

Glass, sifters, and lids

A glass container for powder comes in clear, frosted, amber, white opal, and black glass. Clear glass shows the color of the powder, and frosted and black glass give a soft or bold look. The sifter is a thin plastic disc with holes. It can have a few large holes for coarse products, such as glitter, or many small holes for fine powder, and some sifters have a flip cover. Without a sifter, the jar works as a plain jar. The lid can be black or white plastic, gold or silver aluminum, or wood look, and a liner under the lid seals the jar. Printing, coating, and finishes

Custom powder jars can carry a logo in several ways. Screen printing puts one or two colors straight on the glass and lasts well. Hot stamp foil in gold or silver gives a sharp metallic mark, and the lid can carry the logo as well. A pressure sensitive label gives full color and room for text, and a frosted or colored coating can match your brand. Labeling notes

If your jar holds a cosmetic or personal care product, the label must carry the text that the law requires for your product, such as ingredients, net contents, and warnings. You supply the text and the layout, and we print what you send. We do not write or check label text or claims, so please have your final label reviewed by a person who knows the rules for your product.

Artwork and dieline

We send a free dieline that shows the print area on your jar and lid, or the size of your label. Supply artwork as a vector AI or PDF file with fonts outlined and images at 300 DPI in CMYK. Screen print and foil designs work best as single color vector files. You review and approve the artwork before production starts.
