Why Mascara Packaging Needs a Tighter Fit Than Most Cosmetics

Order a standard-size box that's slightly too roomy and the product travels the width of the box every time the shipment hits a bump. Multiply that across a pallet going from a distribution center to a doorstep somewhere in the Midwest, and it's easy to end up with a wand seal that's loosened or a cap that's cracked before the customer ever opens the box.

The fix isn't a thicker box. It's a box cut to the product's actual profile, sometimes with a shaped paperboard channel or tray inside that holds it in one position and stops it from sliding. That interior fit matters more here than it does for something like a bulkier lotion bottle, which has enough mass and surface contact to stay put on its own.
