What custom shampoo boxes are used for

Sizes and how to measure

Measure the product, not the label. For a bottle, take the width and depth at the widest point and the full height with the cap or pump on. For a bar, take length, width, and thickness. For a set, measure each product and choose a layout. Allow 1/8 to 1/4 inch per side for clearance. Send us the numbers and we build the dieline around them.

Box styles and closures

A straight tuck end carton is the standard choice for shampoo boxes, because it ships flat and fits a tall bottle snugly. A reverse tuck end keeps the front panel clean for the product name. An auto lock bottom holds the weight of a full bottle without tape. A sleeve box slides over a tray and suits a set, a window carton shows the color of the product, and a magnetic closure rigid box suits a gift set. A tuck end box also fits a solid bar well. These styles can be made as shampoo box packaging for retail or for mailing.

Materials and thickness

Folding cartons use paperboard of about 300 to 400 GSM, which prints crisp color and holds a bottle firmly. Kraft board gives a natural look that many hair care brands like. Rigid boxes use greyboard of about 1.5 to 2 mm under a printed wrap and suit a gift set. For mail, E-flute or B-flute corrugated mailers add crush protection. Exact thickness is confirmed for each order. Every box uses eco-friendly materials sourced from certified suppliers, and recycled paperboard and kraft board are available.

Printing, coatings, and finishes

Print full color CMYK or match your brand with Pantone spot colors, on the outside only or the outside and inside. Hair care is sold by type, so many brands use one layout with a color band that changes for each hair type or scent, which keeps cost lower across a range. Matte lamination looks calm, gloss adds shine, and soft-touch adds a velvety feel. Spot UV can pick out the logo, and foil in gold, silver, or rose gold adds an accent. Embossing and debossing add texture to a name. Luxury shampoo packaging often pairs a soft-touch box with a foil logo. Unique shampoo packaging can come from a shaped window, an embossed pattern, or a color that changes with each product. Custom printed shampoo boxes can also carry a barcode, directions, and a list of ingredients.

Inserts and windows

A paperboard or corrugated insert holds a bottle upright and keeps the cap from rubbing the wall. For a set, the insert has an opening for each item. A die-cut window with clear film shows the product, which helps in retail. If your bottle is plain, a solid front with a foil logo may look better. A clean white insert makes a dark bottle stand out.

Labeling and shipping notes

Shampoo is a liquid, so check the rules of your carrier before you ship it. You supply the ingredient list, the directions, the warnings, and any required text, and we print it where you want it. We do not write or check this text for you.

Artwork and dieline

We send a free dieline sized to your product. Supply artwork as a vector AI or PDF file with fonts outlined and images at 300 DPI in CMYK. You review and approve the artwork before production starts.
