What tamper evident stickers are used for

A tamper evident sticker is placed across an opening, so that opening the package damages or changes the sticker. The customer can see at a glance whether the package was opened before it arrived. Brands use a tamper evident sticker label on boxes, bottles, jars, bags, and mailers, to show that a product has not been opened. A branded seal also adds a finished look, because it carries your logo. Tamper evident means it shows signs of opening. It does not mean the package cannot be opened, and it is not a security guarantee.

Sizes and how to measure

Sticker size is written as width x height. A tamper evident seal sticker must cover the opening, such as the seam of a box or the gap between a lid and a bottle, with a small overlap on each side. To choose a size, measure the seam or the gap, and add overlap on both sides. A narrow, wide rectangle suits a box seam, and a round seal suits a cap or a flap. Tell us your package, and we suggest a size and shape.

• Box seam seal: about 3 in x 1 in
• Round cap seal: about 1.5 in across
• Bottle neck band: about 4 in x 0.75 in

Seal styles and materials

Tamper evident stock comes in several styles. Some show a message or a pattern when peeled. Some are made of a fragile film that tears when removed, so the sticker cannot be lifted and put back without damage. Some leave an adhesive mark on the surface. Availability depends on the stock, so tell us the package and the use, and we suggest a style. Paper, vinyl, and clear film can be used as the base. Test a few on your real packaging, because the surface and the adhesive change how the seal behaves.

Printing and finishing

Tamper evident sticker printing can be full color or one or two colors, with your logo and a short message such as sealed for your protection. Keep the design simple, with a bold logo and a clear message. White ink helps colors stand out on clear stock. Finishes include matte and gloss, and foil is possible on some stocks. Keep the print away from the area that is meant to tear or change, so the effect stays clear.

Tamper-evident RFID stickers

Tamper-evident RFID stickers contain a chip or an antenna that can be read by a reader. We do not currently offer RFID stickers. Our tamper evident stickers are printed adhesive seals, and they do not carry any electronic tracking. If you need an RFID solution, you would need a specialist supplier.

Because a seal does not stop a package from being opened, treat it as one part of your packaging, and not as a security system. Supply artwork as a vector AI or PDF file with fonts outlined and images at 300 DPI in CMYK. If you have no artwork yet, free design support and a free consultation are included, and our team can help lay out the logo and the text from your brand colors. You review and approve the artwork before production starts.
